General Pool Rules Clarification

Marking Pool Tables

Q:

I have been told it is illegal to "mark" the table when planning a shot. To be specific, I am referring to place the cube of chalk on the rail near the spot I will be aiming for. I could not find any ruling on this subject to verify what seems to be an accepted rule. I'm rather stubborn about accepting somebody's ruling without rule book verification.

What do you have to say about this??

A:

Marking the pool table by means of aiming assistance, even by placing the cube of chalk on the rail, is illegal and therefore a foul. If you need written evidence, you can find it in the official BCA General Rules
